WHO WE ARE...
SSG Celestials FC is Bedfordshire’s first and only fully inclusive club for children and young people with special educational needs, disabilities, and mental health issues. We aim to provide fun and inclusive football in a self-sustainable football club that these children, young people, and families can call their own. The club is operated by volunteers across both the coaching team and committee and is a non-profit organisation.
WHAT WE DO...
SSG Celestials FC provide fun and inclusive weekly football sessions for children and young people with SEND and barriers to inclusion. Sessions are open to everyone, and we will do our best to ensure everyone is included as much as we can. The sessions are based around simple and enjoyable football activities that get the players moving, developing skills with the ball, and having a great time.
Our aim however, is to be more than just a football club and become a community hub for active families to come together and share support and time together with other families in similar situations.
What are our aims and core values?
Our aim is to create a truly inclusive football club for failies,with an outstanding footballing environment for all players and coaches to maximise their potential, through working with specialists to ensure complete inclusion at all levels possible.
Our core values are:
Respect Each Other
Develop Your Skills
Do Your Best
Who are the coaching team and committee?
The coaching team consists of volunteer family and community members, who have or are completing FA qualification in coaching and our own SSG Celestials football inclusion training. We have developed a three-tier programme to allow people of differing levels of experience to join the coaching team working through FA qualifications and club training to progress from a helper to a fully-fledged inclusion coach. We have a team of coach mentors to support new coach development, overseen by our Coaching Development Officer.
We have a clear strategic plan for coach and football development, which we have worked hard with Beds FA to create and implement. As a result of this work, we were awarded status as a National Disability Centre, the only one in Bedfordshire, which was a huge achievement.
The committee is also formed from a wonderful group of community and family members with the required skills and abilities to support the establishment and growth of a football club.
There is no blueprint for us to follow for this brand-new approach to building a fully inclusive SEND football club, very often it can feel like each step is a leap of faith. Despite this, things continue to happen at an incredible speed, with contagious energy and excellent outcomes. The committee has a constitution and will operate democratically with roles being annually reviewed, allowing new members to get involved,
If you are interested in giving up some time and volunteering as either a football coach or committee member we NEED to hear from you.
How are we funded?
We aim to be a entirely self sustainable funded club through the following:
- player registrations and weekly fees;
- fundraising events;
If you could support the football club through partnership and/or sponsorship please get in touch.
